Franklin County Virginia cyclists benefit from the county’s geography, demographics and industry. Situated on the eastern edge of the Blue Ridge Mountains, the county offers both mountainous terrain, and rolling piedmont. There are (official) Cat 1 and Cat 2 climbs to be climbed, there are gently (really) rolling rides and great scenery everywhere you look. Franklin County is home to the biggest dairy farms in the state. How does this relate to cycling? you may ask. Simple, where there are dairy farms, the big 18 wheel milk trucks MUST come to pick up the milk every day. Big trucks need good roads; good smooth, wide, well-surfaced roads, so do bicycles. So, there you have it, good roads on a variety of terrain. Bear in mind also, that Franklin County is still a fairly rural area. Therefore, traffic is seldom a problem, but you should always ride prepared to deal with yourself and your bike responsibly. Carry spares and adaquate supplies as stores and telephones may be far apart.
Almost all of these rides are entirely in Franklin County and
are named for their point of origin.
